The main point in the keeping of birds is a correct nourishment for them. The main part of the cage birds such as parrots, canaries etc. are used to be granivorous birds. But this fact doesn't intend them to eat only seeds. But in fact this sort of birds vary their food each season in natural conditions. The ration can include animal feed, different vegetables, fruits and tree barks. So bear in mind, that if you want your bird to be strong and healthy you are to feed it with various kinds of forage.

Nowadays one can buy bird seed almost everywhere, even on the web. As you see you can't feed your bird a whole year with corns because it won't harmonize with their natural nourishment.

Lots of birds can have the same meal for a long time and don't reveal any signs of a disease. But as a rule, the consequences of such nutrition can be revealed in the abnormality of molt, overweight, kidney disease and disorder of the reproductive function. And a lack of vitamins and proteins weakens the defense function of a bird's body and makes it susceptible to different infective illnesses.

So the main part of a bird's ration consists of grain blends. Also you may add in the mixture a large variety of greens, fruits, vegetables, wild herbage, fresh leaves and branches of trees. Animal feed should be included to a bird's ration as a source of proteins. Hen's eggs in a boiled condition, fatless curds or small amount of fatless minced meat can be included in a bird's ration. You must give such forages to your bird once a week, but in molt period it will be twice a week and if it is a period of breeding - give it each day. You should also put in the bird's cage a feeder with chalk or small stones, they are necessary for good digestion and will give calcium to the bird's organism.
